I set a dangerously high goal for October

Forget winter is coming.

Fall is coming.

And with it, the release of the first two books of The Last Sin series.

My first book, Disciple of Sin, has a planned release date in October (specific date to be determined).

This means my advanced review copy (ARC) needs to be ready by the beginning of September at the latest.

My goal is more ambitious. I want my ARC to be ready by the beginning of August.

I have already created the cover and had my manuscript reviewed by a copy editor and proofreader.

I'm officially close to the publishing finish line.

So, what's left on my plate?

Proofreading the Proofreader:

After carefully reviewing my 138,000-word manuscript for the tenth time, I sent it off to my proofreader, who proceeded to point out everything I did wrong.

Currently, I am reviewing my manuscript all over again to accept or reject her corrections.

I've given myself a week and a half to do this, reviewing 10 chapters a day.

Formatting an eBook:

When my manuscript is finalized, I will have a 500-page Microsoft Word document. The next step will be to format that into an eBook.

There are a few different software platforms I can use, like Atticus or the Reedsy Book Editor.

Since I am focusing on Kindle and Kindle Select, I decided to go with Kindle Create. It is free and optimized for Kindle e-readers.

Amazon Listing:

Next, I'll need to set up my Amazon listing, decide my genre, pick a release date, and finalize my blurb.

ARC Campaign:

Once all that is set up, I will use StoryOrigin to create my ARC campaign to send ARCs to early reviewers.

If you are particularly eager, click the button below to join my ARC team early. Doing so will get you early access to my ARC before I make it widely available to the public.

I've set the ambitious goal of getting 300 early reviews before launch. To do this, I'll need to recruit a lot more people than I currently have on my email list.

There is still a lot of work ahead of me.

Until next time,

J. W. Weld

P.S. Next week, I'm building an army.

Facebook. Instagram. Amazon. Millions of new books are released every year, and there are a million ways to market them. Out of the many different ways, there is one tried and true method to put books in people’s hands: word of mouth. We skip YouTube ads, scroll past sponsored Instagram posts, and ignore Facebook banners, but the honest recommendation of people like us grabs our attention. This word of mouth comes in many forms: reviews from readers, buzz from friends and coworkers, and hype...

You are what you eat. That's twice as true for authors. The stories we consume inspire the stories we create. Like a modern artist sampling music, a writer knows everything is a remix. To create the best stories possible, authors need the right inspiration. With that said, here are three pieces of media that have inspired me this summer. The Vampire Lestat: The Vampire Lestat is a continuation of AMC's incredible Interview with a Vampire tv series. It is a masterful adaptation of Anne Rice's...
